Sitting for hours on end is unhealthy, as everyone knows by now. In particular, gamers who have an office job during the day and play games in the evening spend far too much time sitting down. On the other hand, switching completely from sitting to standing is also not recommended – the good mixture makes it. However, because adjustable desks are expensive, many gaming enthusiasts end up spending their money on new hardware. There are numerous, cheaper solutions.

One variant can even be completely free of charge. Because for this you simply use the material that you already have at home. In order to be able to use your IT devices such as mouse, keyboard and monitor (s) comfortably while standing, they have to be raised. A correspondingly large board, which lies on two supports, is sufficient for this. You can build the latter yourself from boxes, books, packaging boxes or similar objects. There are no costs involved and you can use the PC while standing. The disadvantage: this setup cannot be converted quickly. In addition, the construction looks rather improvised. This solution is a good introduction to this because it is an easy way to find out whether standing is something for you at all.

A desk top is significantly cheaper than a standing desk and can be quickly folded down so that you can work sitting down again.

From around 80 euros, there are also desk attachments that can be easily folded up and down to switch from standing back to sitting. More expensive models also offer extra features such as height-adjustable surfaces for mouse and keyboard or an integrated monitor holder. However, these attachments take up a lot of desk space and can only be loaded with a few kilograms.

Working standing up regularly is healthy. However, if a new standing desk is too expensive for you, frames and attachments offer cost-saving alternatives.
Another affordable option is to replace the frame of your existing desk with a height-adjustable version. Such solutions are available from around 200 euros. However, the price mainly depends on whether you want to buy a model with manual or electrical height adjustment. The conversion is quite similar for all models: You remove the old frame and mount the desk top on the new frame. This should work in all those cases where the desk has removable table legs.
