Extreme E: Rosberg on course for victory again, Scheider surprised

First sustainability, then sport! The Extreme E also wants to leave green tracks at the double header in Sardinia (July 6th/7th and July 9th/10th). To this end, the all-electric SUV racing series is working with the MEDSEA Foundation on a seagrass restoration project, which involves replanting seagrass in a degraded area of the Sardinian coast.

Because: Seagrass is considered the “rainforest of the ocean” and is vital for the health of our seas. It can sequester carbon from the atmosphere up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests.

Teams are also visiting communities in Sennariolo affected by the 2021 wildfires that damaged 20,000 hectares of landscape and killed an estimated 30 million bees. Over 1,000 people have lost their homes. The focus is on restoring historic olive groves and damaged olive trees. There is also a collaboration with a company to promote their tool for forecasting forest fires.

Scheider was quick on his debut

Timo Scheider is doing well on his Extreme E debut.

The defending champion provided the sporty exclamation marks at the start of qualifying for the second race of the year. Because Rosberg X Racing has confidently qualified for the semi-finals. After the best time in the individual time trial in qualifying 1, Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky dominated the second qualifying heat 1 on Wednesday afternoon at the military training ground on the south coast of the island and didn’t give the competition a chance.

RXR relegated X44, the team of Rosberg rival Lewis Hamilton, to second place. Strong on his debut: Two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider, who drives for the Spanish team XITE Energy Racing alongside Tamara Molinaro and finished third. All three teams advanced to the semi-finals.

Also Abt in the semifinals

In heat 2, Carlos Sainz/Laia Sanz (Acciona Sainz XE) prevailed against Veloce Racing and McLaren. For Abt Cupra XE around the Dakar legends Jutta Kleinschmidt and Nasser Al-Attiyah it was only enough for fifth place, but with fourth place in the individual time trial the duo also entered the semi-finals. There, three teams compete against each other in two runs, and two teams each reach the final. The fifth final participant will be determined in the Crazy Race.

The first Island X Prix in Sardinia will take place on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. The third X Prix of the year takes place on Saturday and Sunday with qualifying, semi-finals, crazy race and final. ProSieben Maxx broadcasts on Thursday from 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m.
