With an ancient smartphone for 99 euros as the “deal of the day”, Media Markt draws a lot of laughter and scorn.

Actually, the “deals of the day” at Media Markt are often a good place to go for price-conscious buyers. The current “deal of the day” bargain, however, causes a lot of criticism and laughter here on Facebook.
Specifically, the electronics market offers the Galaxy S7 for 99 euros. However, this “attractive” price is diminished by the fact that the smartphone has already been on the market for six years. Samsung launched its S7 in spring 2016. The basic data, which were decent at the time, seem almost ridiculous today: 32 GB of storage space, an eight-core CPU manufactured using the 14-nanometer process and 4 GB of RAM are no longer up-to-date for Android smartphones today.
Old cookies and marshmallows
After all, the AMOLED screen with 5.1 inches and 1440×2560 pixels is still quite usable. The rear camera with 12 megapixels and a selfie camera with only 5 megapixels are no longer worth mentioning. However, the main problem of the older Galaxy smartphone lies elsewhere: The Galaxy S7 was then delivered with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and later updated to Android 8.0 (Oreo). Since then, the smartphone has not received any updates. However, secure operation without updates is not guaranteed. Accordingly, security-conscious buyers should avoid the offer.
Lots of criticism on Facebook
It should also be borne in mind that MediaMarkt offers the Galaxy S7 as a B-stock, which is sold through a smaller retailer. Nevertheless, MediaMarkt drew attention to this offer prominently on the Internet. The electronics retailer has received a lot of criticism on Facebook. Many users find it “bold” to offer such an old device that hasn’t received any updates for years. Other users are wondering what old stock the retailer is tapping into here.
