After the forced break due to the coronavirus, Schalke 04 continues with a bad streak in the Bundesliga. The team of trainer David Wagner lost at home with no less than 3-0 from FC Augsburg. Schalke has already not won nine league matches and has now slipped to eighth place.
Augsburg first had coach Heiko Herrlich, who was appointed in March, on the bench. His debut was postponed for a week after a visit to the supermarket, violating quarantine regulations. His team lost 2-1 to VfL Wolfsburg when the German football league resumed, but his first performance as a coach went a lot better. Eduard Löwen gave his team the lead in the 6th minute with a clever free kick.
Schalke, who had resumed the league last week with an equally painful 4-0 defeat to fellow countryman Borussia Dortmund, barely made a decent attack. Substituted Nigerian Noah-Joel Sarenren-Bazee doubled the lead after 76 minutes after poor intervention by Schalke defender Jonjoe Kenny. It was his first goal in the Bundesliga. In the final minute, Venezuelan Sergio Córdova made the 0-3.
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, who returned from an injury, stayed on the bench with mid-engine Augsburg.
