At the end of his contract next June, Frédéric Antonetti has decided to extend his contract with the Garnets. The club is currently in eighth place in Ligue 1.

(AFP) – “I am extremely satisfied with Frédéric Antonetti’s contract extension.” It is with these words that the president of FC Metz, Bernard Serin, announced that the coach Frédéric Antonetti would keep his place on the Metz bench until, possibly, June 2024. “For us, he is the architect of this course for almost three years, where the objectives have been achieved. We left for the continuity that I wanted and that he agreed to assume. ”

Author of a hat-trick at Camp Nou against FC Barcelona (4-1), the French football player managed a galactic performance, in the absence of Neymar, to propel PSG to the gates of the quarter-finals of the League of champions, Tuesday.

Arrived in the summer of 2018 Antonetti (59) had left the Lorraine club a few months later to return to Corsica to the bedside of his sick wife, who died last July. But the technician, who became general manager during this period, had never lost sight of the workforce, which he supervised remotely.

Vincent Hognon then took his place on the bench during his absence and helped bring the Garnets back to L1 in 2019 and then maintain them in 2020. Antonetti, who was often present in Metz since last August, had finally regained his coaching position last October, while his former assistant left the club.

All Lorraine technical staff also extended their three-year contract.

Currently eighth in L1 with 35 points, FC Metz, fourteenth before the return of Corsica, is having a good season. With Antonetti’s leg, the Lorraine club has notably regained strength since it has the fourth best defense in the championship behind Lille, Paris and Lyon. Even if they remain on two defeats (1-0 at Saint-Étienne and 1-2 against Strasbourg) in L1, the Garnets crossed the month of January at a rapid pace with two draws and three consecutive victories, including one in Lyon.
