The federal government is standardizing its regulations for classifying countries as corona risk areas. According to the Foreign Office, a travel warning will apply to all risk areas from October 1st.

At the same time, all 160 countries outside Europe that are currently designated as risk areas continue to be warned against unnecessary tourist trips. Means: Anyone who travels back to Germany from there must be in quarantine until a negative corona test is available; If a test is positive, a 14-day quarantine is mandatory. In future, however, the individual circumstances on site will be given greater consideration in the risk assessment of the Federal Foreign Office, it says.

The African states are among the countries for which a blanket travel warning has so far applied. According to research by NewsABC.net, there should have been a row between the Union’s internal noise at the so-called “Black Breakfast” on Wednesday: According to this, there was a dispute between Development Minister Gerd Müller (CSU) and Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) on Wednesday morning at the traditional meeting of Union ministers before each cabinet meeting ).

Almost every country in Africa is a corona risk area

At the meeting, Müller is said to have called for vacations in African countries to be made easier again, according to participants. The assessments of some African countries as corona risk areas and corresponding travel warnings should be reconsidered. Health Minister Spahn is said to have held against it. The risk is too great and, after all, he is responsible for the health of Germans.

A Spahn spokesman did not want to comment on NewsABC.net’s request. A request to Müller’s ministry remained unanswered until Thursday morning.

According to the African Union, there are currently just over 1.3 million corona cases on the African continent. 31,207 people have died from the virus so far. In fact, the spread of the virus is very different in different countries. South Africa and Egypt alone, the two countries that have been worst hit, account for more than half of the corona cases in Africa.

In other countries, such as Namibia, the Congo or Mali, the number of cases is significantly lower. And in the popular holiday destination Morocco, the daily corona infections are currently around 1,500, roughly the same as in the Federal Republic.

Müller campaigned for Africa vacations as early as the spring

Development Minister Müller has been campaigning for vacation opportunities in Africa for a long time. As early as April, during the hottest phase of the corona pandemic, he told the newspapers of the Funke media group: “I believe that there is an opportunity in the Mediterranean region [auf Urlaub] there – including in North Africa. ”

Tourism is an important industry for countries such as Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt. However, the prerequisites for traveling there are “functioning hygiene concepts according to European standards,” said Müller at the time.
