Switching from an Android smartphone to an iPhone is now quite easy. Basically all you need is the “Move to iOS” app from the Google Play Store to guide you through the moving process. If you also wanted to transfer Whatsapp, the most popular messenger service, along with the data, then it was a lot more complex – as you can read in our moving guide. You had to do real digital acrobatics until you had accidentally transferred all chats from Android WhatsApp to iOS WhatsApp.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, Whatsapp’s parent company, has now announced in a Facebook post that the current version of Whatsapp will also allow the move from Android to iOS. There are a few minimum requirements to be observed: The Android smartphone should run at least Android 5. The new iPhone should be updated to iOS 15.5. Wabetainfo describes the migration procedure from Android to iPhone as follows:
-
Please connect both devices to a power source. In this case, no cable is required to migrate your data: your devices simply need to be logged on to the same network.
-
You are not allowed to set up your new iPhone before Whatsapp migration. Alternatively, you can reset it in Settings to use the Move to iOS app.
-
Open the “Move to iOS” app on your Android device and follow the app’s instructions.
-
Enter the same code on your Android device that is shown on your iPhone. Go ahead and make sure to select Whatsapp right on the Transfer Data screen.
-
Tap “Begin” on your Android device and wait for all data to be transferred. You will be signed out of your Android device once the data is fully migrated.
-
Tap Next to return to the Move to iOS app. Then you can proceed to transfer the data from your Android device to your iPhone and wait for the Move to iOS app to finish the process.
-
After activating your iOS device, install the latest version of Whatsapp from the App Store, currently it is version number 22.12.78. Sign into Whatsapp with the same phone number you used on your old Android device, tap “Next” and wait for the app to set up.
-
After logging into Whatswpp for iPhone, your chats and media will appear.
