Finished copper thermal pads for cooler RTX graphics cards

With a prefabricated copper thermal pad, the temperature of the VRAM chips can be significantly reduced.

A few weeks ago we reported on the Youtuber Dandy Works, who had provided the GDDR6X memory modules of an RTX 3070 Ti with self-made copper plates. The result of the conversion was significantly lower temperatures of the VRAM components and associated less frequent downclocking of the GDDR6X memory modules. However, the conversion was not suitable for laypeople, since copper as an electrical conductor can destroy the graphics card if it slips or is improperly placed, compared to classic thermal pads.

In a recent video, Dandy Works shows a further development of his idea: he places a prefabricated copper thermal pad on an RTX 3080. The accessories manufactured by CoolMyGPU fit perfectly on the VRAM chips and also serve as spacers to the GPU. This prevents slipping and thus also excludes a hardware defect.

So far only available for RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti

The result of the conversion is impressive: In the game “Cyberpunk 2077” the temperature of the VRAM chips drops by more than 20 percent to 70 degrees Celsius. Ethereum mining also saw a 20 percent reduction in temperature. The GPU also gets a little less warm as a result of the conversion, although the reduction here is also significantly lower at 5 to 10 percent. If you want to do the conversion yourself on an RTX 3080 or RTX 3080 Ti, you pay 57 US dollars for the copper thermal pad without thermal paste. However, there is also the shipping. There are currently no suitable pads for other popular models such as the RTX 3070 Ti or the RTX 3090.
