In discussions for several weeks, Fisker and the Canadian supplier Magna formalized their cooperation for the industrialization of the Fisker Ocean on Thursday, October 15.
Like the Jaguar i-Pace, Fisker’s future electric SUV will be assembled by Magna Steyr, a subsidiary of Magna, at the Austrian site in Graz. Unveiled at the start of the year at CES Las Vegas, the electric SUV will combine an architecture developed by Magna with the aluminum platform developed by the American brand. The production of the first vehicles is scheduled for 2022.
In addition to the industrial aspect, the agreement between the two companies also provides for Magna to acquire a stake in Fisker.
Competitor of Model Y
Presented as Henrik Fisker’s “revenge” on his rival Tesla, the Fisker Ocean is in direct competition with the Tesla Model Y. Available in two or four-wheel drive, the American SUV receives an 80 kWh battery allowing 400 to 480 km of autonomy. In its basic version, it is advertised for less than $ 40,000.
