FKA twigs went to court in December for believing that Shia LaBeouf “posed a threat to women.” Not much later, Netflix decided to cut the actor from their Oscar campaign and he was replaced by Harry Styles in the film. Don’t Worry Darling from Olivia Wilde. And now the singer comes with more details about the abuse by Shia LaBeouf.
Actor Shia LaBeouf was in a couple with the singer FKA twigs from 2018 to 2019. But their relationship was anything but rosy and moonshine, the singer now says. In a lawsuit she filed against the actor, she spoke of physical and emotional abuse.
FKA twigs previously talked about some of the incidents that happened during her relationship with Shia LaBeouf. He would have pushed her against a car, tried to strangle her in her sleep and gave her an STI. The singer also cited a specific incident where LaBeouf raced a car through the streets of Los Angeles just after Valentine’s Day in 2019. In addition, he took off his seat belt and threatened to crash the car if FKA twigs didn’t declare her love for him.
LaBeouf has already denied all charges against FKA twigs through his lawyers. The lawyers want all sexual offense allegations to be lifted because “none of the alleged facts were sexual in nature”. In addition, according to the lawyers, in some cases it was also about self-defense and an attempt to protect themselves. LaBeouf’s lawyers therefore want the case to be closed.
But now FKA twigs goes into further detail about the abuse during her relationship with the actor. She does that in an interview with CBS This Morning. “He often started fights in the middle of the night, accusing me of all kinds of things. He woke me up to tell me that I am disgusting and despicable. That’s why I started to doubt myself. ”
LaBeouf also wanted his girlfriend to always sleep naked. “He said if I didn’t I would hide from him. That is a tactic many abusers use. It ensures constant accessibility and ensures that everything is about them. That’s why I want to talk about this. Because these signals were there from the beginning. ” FKA twigs hopes with its lawsuit to create awareness so that women in violent relationships can intervene in time.
“There was not one specific moment when I thought: ‘Now it is going too far’. Everything happened very subtly. That’s the thing with domestic violence, it goes gradually, step by step you are pushed into a position where you lose yourself. You lose yourself so much that you accept and accept that you are treated in such a way. It’s not about one incident, it’s about many different little things that come together in one big nightmare. ”
