Two of the capital’s clubs have been thinking for several weeks about becoming one entity. This Monday, after the members of the clubs themselves, the umbrella body of Luxembourg football gave its approval.

(JFC, with DW) – There is no longer anything to stop the RM Hamm Benfica and the Blue Boys Mühlenbach becoming one. After members of the two clubs already voted in favor of the merger on Sunday, the football federation (FLF) also gave its approval on Monday evening. The newly founded club will take the name of RM Hamm Benfica. In function at Cents since April 2019, Pedro Resende will be the coach of the men’s team playing in the BGL Ligue.

After the final whistle of the competition on April 28, the Blue Boys finished the red lantern of BGL Ligue, while the RMHB ended the season in Promotion of Honor in sixth place. Incidentally, this merger will free up an additional place in Promotion of Honor for the 2020-2021 season. FC Schifflange 95, ranked second in Division 1, Series 2 will benefit. By a cascade effect, the US Boevange is promoted to Division 1 and the Racing Heiderscheid-Eschdorf to Division 2.

Recall that it was the covid-19 crisis, which affected all the resources of clubs and associations, which served as an accelerator for negotiations between the Blue Boys Mühlenbach and RM Hamm Benfica. “I informed the federation that the covid-19 pandemic had led to an exceptional situation,” commented last week Marc Theisen, the lawyer representing the interests of the two clubs and former president of COSL.
