More details have been revealed about boxing legend Floyd Mayweather’s upcoming comeback. Mayweather, 43, will celebrate his return to the ring in Japan on February 28, 2021. It is not yet known exactly what kind of event it will be and who his opponent is.
What has been on the air for some time now also seems official. Floyd “The Money” Mayweather returns next year. He will do so on February 28 at the Tokyo Dome in Japan during an event called “Mega 2021”. At a press conference about this, Mayweather confirmed his presence via a video call.
MMA or boxing?
It is still unclear what exactly Floyd’s comeback will entail. The event on which it will happen is an MMA event. Still, it is not known whether Mayweather will step into the octagon or the boxing ring.
Since 2015, Floyd Mayweather has only fought one official boxing camp. In 2017, he then returned to the ring for a fight against then-UFC star Conor McGregor. Mayweather won the camp and finished his career with an impressive record of 50 wins and 0 defeats.
On December 31, 2018, he celebrated a remarkable return by fighting an exhibition match in Japan against undefeated kickboxing champion Tenshin Nasukawa. In July of this year, it was announced that Mayweather would return to Japan. However, the corona crisis temporarily delayed that return. But in 2021 the time has come. The boxing champion confirmed this on his Instagram account last week. Whether it is a real camp or an exhibition match again will have to be revealed later.
