5G in the stadium

The DFL (German Football League) and

bring 5G to the stadiums for the 2019/2020 season. For this purpose, the cooperation partners are developing a real-time app that is intended to provide fans in the stadium with information and game data without delay and via augmented reality on the smartphone. For example, fans should be able to see how fast the striker who is about to sprint on the opposing goal is.

The basis for the flow of information in real time should be around 1,600 game events and 3.6 million position points that the DFL collects during a Bundesliga match. The data is analyzed in real time and transferred to the smartphone without delay using 5G. The app visualizes the data and provides live graphics, statistics and analyzes that were otherwise only available on the TV after the game.

However, the app revolution for football fans is starting off slowly: As of autumn 2019, the 5G network for football fans will initially only be available in the Volkswagen Arena at VfL Wolfsburg.

Deutsche Telekom

in turn, the area around Munich’s Allianz Arena has been supplying 5G since spring 2020. This should enable stadium visitors, for example, to use Augmented Reality (AR) or Virtual Reality (VR) via app with 5G-capable devices. Read more about it here:

Take Allianz Arena as an example: This is how football fans benefit from 5G.

Telekom and FC Bayern Munich are entering into a cooperation agreement: the new 5G mobile communications standard should be available in the Munich Allianz Arena in spring 2020.

2. Listen to the Bundesliga

2.1 Listen to the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and German CL games live for free with Amazon:

If you only want to listen to Bundesliga matches live, you can do this for free with your Amazon customer account. From the Bundesliga season 2019/2020, all audio football content will be available free of charge on Amazon. From now on, all Amazon customers can watch the matches of the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and all matches of the German teams in the UEFA Champions League live via audio stream. All you need is an Amazon account and no longer as in the 2018/2019 season

Amazon Prime for 69 euros per year or for 7.99 euros per month

Amazon Music Unlimited for 7.99 euros per month or 79 euros per year for Prime members or 9.99 euros per month for non-Prime members

In addition there are the games of relegation and the DFL Supercup – a total of 617 competitive games. All games live and in full length.

The Saturday conference in the first Bundesliga will be accompanied by a Bundesliga show that starts at 3 p.m. The Amazon conference on the games lasts for the full 90 minutes and is without advertising breaks. Amazon offers audio streaming for the Bundesliga for the 2018/2019 season and for another three seasons.

On match days, the streams of the individual games are flanked by 15 minutes of preliminary and follow-up reports as well as a mid-term analysis. Football fans should get analyzes, individual comments and interviews for each individual game.

2.2 Listen to the Bundesliga for free on the radio and on tune-in:

You don’t necessarily have to book Amazon Prime to listen to Bundesliga football on the radio. In addition to Amazon Prime, the ARD also offers the opportunity to follow the Bundesliga live as an audio broadcast via the live radio conference. Not all games in full length, but the conference call is more exciting anyway. You can follow this Bundesliga conference via the classic FM radio, but also via web radio: Simply select the appropriate radio station, for example Bayern 1, on Tune-in-Radio or on on your smartphone or tablet. This also works with Google Home, Amazon Echo and now the Homepod – for the latter, Tune-in is even the standard radio player.

3. Champions League and Europa League: Sky and DAZN, Amazon Prime and Music Unlimited

3.1 Champions League:

The games of the Champions League are currently running without exception

(via satellite, cable, IPTV and webstream as well as mobile; as a subscription or via Supersport Ticket) and

(only via webstream and mobile) who share the CL games. So you need both subscriptions if you want to see all CL games live. The games of the CL are not broadcast on free TV. Exception: If a German team reaches the CL final on May 30, 2020 in Istanbul, this game must also be broadcast on free TV. We hope for Bayern, but Dortmund and Leipzig also have feasible opponents in the round of 16 and could therefore remain in the competition for a while.

3.2: Listen to the Champions League:

With the free Amazon account, you have access to the live audio streams of all Champions League games with German participation. These are the CL games of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the 2019/2020 season, which however could not qualify for the round of 16 and will henceforth play in the European League.

Sky sports bars with all German CL games

By the way, the pay channel Sky and the streaming TV provider DAZN are cooperating with the

Sky sports bars.
This ensures that you can see all Champions League games with German participation live in a Sky Sportsbar over the next three seasons.

3.3 Outlook for the 2021/2022 season:

Sky loses TV broadcasting rights to the Football Champions League. From the 2021/2022 season, DAZN will broadcast all CL games for the Tuesday and Wednesday match days, with the exception of the respective top game on Tuesday. Because from the 2021/22 season, Amazon will be showing the respective top game of the Football Champions League live on Tuesday as part of Amazon Prime Video.

From the 2021/2022 season, ZDF will also broadcast the CL final in addition to DAZN. And regardless of whether a German team takes part. The ZDF also shows a summary of all games on Wednesday evening.

The broadcast rights for Amazon, DAZN and ZDF apply for three seasons.

Read more about this in this message.

4. Listen to the DFB Cup: Amazon Prime or Amazon Music Unlimited

If you want to listen to the remaining games of the DFB Cup, you can do so with your Amazon account. Unlike in the 2018/2019 season, you don’t need Amazon Prime or

Amazon Music Unlimited: for € 7.99 a month or € 79 a year if you are an Amazon Prime member.
Individual DFB Cup matches will be presented in full length, parallel games will be offered in the conference.

You can listen to the Bundesliga live coverage on iOS, Android and Fire devices via the Amazon Music app as well as on all Alexa devices such as Amazon Echo and Echo Dot. You can also follow the gameplay on desktop PCs and Sonos devices.
