Motorsport boss Marquardt resigns

BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt devoted himself to a new task in November. His successor, Markus Flasch, only takes over temporarily.

W.andel in the BMW Motorsport department: Head of Motorsport Jens Marquardt resigns and takes over the pilot plant for the entire prototype construction of the BMW Group from November. Here 700 employees will work on up to six vehicle projections in parallel.
Marquardt on his end as head of motorsport for Munich: “The past ten years will always be associated with emotional memories for me. I was able to experience all the ups and downs in motorsport together with an extraordinary team. The overall victory in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring was the crowning glory of this exciting time. ”

BMW won three DTM titles under Marquardt


Marquardt took over the role in 2011 and has since led the brand to three DTM titles in 2012, 2014 and 2016, to several overall or class victories in endurance races such as Daytona, Spa or Nürburgring, as well as to Formula E.

Markus Flasch, previously head of BMW M GmbH, is taking over provisional management of BMW Group Motorsport.

BMW also confirms the Formula E and GT projects for 2021. However, due to the format change to GT Plus cars, BMW will withdraw from the DTM at the factory (more on this HERE).
