In a letter to Claudio Castro, the governor of Rio de Janeiro, F1 boss Chase Carey confirms: “I am writing to keep you informed that we have now reached an agreement with Rio Motorsports LLC regarding the hosting, implementation and promotion of Formula 1 races in Rio de Janeiro. “

There are negative comments from Formula 1 fans in Internet forums. The circuit in Interlagos is considered a cult racetrack with exciting races and historical moments. The end of this traditional slope would be a real loss.

But there are also powerful headwinds from environmentalists. The route is to be built in Rio’s Deodoro district, for which thousands of trees have to be felled. Therefore, a petition has already been submitted against the new racing facility.
