Formula 1 has been in the works for quite some time with the plan to start the season in early July with two races at the Austrian Red Bull Ring. The circuit itself – which is owned by Red Bull – has agreed, but the sport has been waiting for some time for the required approval from the Austrian government, which is still considering the package of measures announced by Formula 1 that will reduce the likelihood of spreading keep the coronavirus as low as possible.
Small group of fans welcome
Various Austrian media now report that the authorities have agreed to the plans for Formula 1 and that on 5 and 12 July there can be two races in Spielberg. According to That Motorprofis there may even be an audience at the races, although this number will be limited to 500 fans per race.
Official approval by the Austrian authorities is expected to be officially announced early next week.
