Formula 1: Heidfeld talks about Vettels future

“Vettel’s Ferrari time was not fulfilling”
Nick Heidfeld knows Sebastian Vettel well from his time together at BMW. Here he talks about his separation from Ferrari and explores a possible switch to Mercedes.
Heidfeld on AUTO BILD MOTORSPORT: “At Ferrari Vettel clearly no longer had number 1 status. For a top pilot like Sebastian, this equates to a lack of backing and trust from the team. He won’t have missed that. ”
Nick Heidfeld knows Sebastian Vettel well from his time together at BMW.
Couldn’t, because Ferrari made a new love in December: Charles Leclerc. The young Monegasse was given a five-year contract – not even Michael Schumacher had such a long-term contract. Heidfeld: “Leclerc became more and more the focus of what became visible through the contract. And with Jean Todt’s son as manager at his side, the influence was also very great politically. ”
For a top athlete like Vettel in need of harmony, the framework conditions at Ferrari should not have fit last year. The decision to separate is therefore only logical – even if Scuderia had it spread in England, the team leadership had already decided against Heppenheimer in the winter.
“For me it is clear,” says Heidfeld, “In the end, Vettel didn’t have the fulfilling time he wanted at Ferrari, and he obviously doesn’t see it there either.”
To do this, however, Vettel must first decide what he wants. Heidfeld believes: “During the Corona break, he must have become aware of things that he didn’t even notice in the Formula 1 hamster wheel. With his four titles, he actually achieved everything. He has three children, maybe they should now play the main role in his life. “
