Formula 1 Qatar: Hamilton’s next coup

Lewis Hamilton’s next magic round! The Mercedes star takes pole position at the premiere of the Qatar Grand Prix in Doha. For the fourth time this year, the Briton is starting from his place in the sun and is setting the next exclamation mark in the world championship fight. “A mad lap by Hamilton, but the Mercedes suddenly had a top speed advantage again,” analyzes Sky expert Timo Glock.
“We changed a few things on the car yesterday,” reveals Lewis Hamilton. “The last lap was wonderful. The track is incredible to drive. It’s very fast with lots of high speed turns. And tire wear is not huge either. ”
Verstappen only remains the pursuer role.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko warns: “The backlog is alarming. The car was never as good over the lap. But traditionally we are better off with a full tank. That’s why we’re still positive. ”
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff gives the opponents little hope, however: “Positions one and three were our dream scenario. Overtaking is difficult here. ”
Mick Schumacher lands in 19th place, one place ahead of his Haas team-mate Nikita Mazepin, who does not have a competitive lap time after problems in the free practice sessions. He also damaged his front wing in qualifying.
