Mick Schumacher (23) has arrived in Formula 1: After his first four points in Silverstone, Michael Schumacher’s son in Austria scored again. In sixth place, he credits his account with another eight points and is now 15th in the World Cup table with twelve World Cup points.
“He was great all weekend and clearly the faster of the two (Haas drivers; ed.), Uncle Ralf Schumacher is proud of his nephew. “Mick did a great job, the pace from the car was also excellent. He’s absolutely strong in one-on-one combat. In the end it was like a knot bursting. The team will also have more confidence in him now.”
Mick Schumacher himself was beaming in the many TV interviews after the race: “I’m completely satisfied with today,” he says on Sky. “Yesterday we dropped a few points. But with the performance we’re showing, we can also score points in other races. I feel very well. We have a car that we can fight with and we’re getting closer to the top 7.”
The Haas pilot also gets praise from his opponents. “Mick drove really well,” says Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, “defended well and always stayed sporty. Glad to see that, good young man.”
Thanks to Kevin Magnussen’s eighth place finish, Haas is now seventh in the Constructors’ Championship. “A fantastic result for the team today,” said team manager Günther Steiner. “There was a small problem with Kevin’s engine but everything ran as perfectly as it can be. Many thanks to the whole team for a great performance.”
