Gerwyn Price, the current world champion, did not reach his highest level against Peter Hudson, but has progressed to the next round without any problems. Some of the highlights for ‘The Iceman’ were a couple of tight finishes of 140 and 156. It ended up being 10-5 in favor of the Welsh man.
Peter Wright is allowed to scratch himself behind the ears for a while. After a weak start against Dave Chisnall, he couldn’t manage to turn that backlog. ‘Chizzy’ eventually managed to win 10-5 against the 50-year-old Scot.
King and Aspinall lose, Cross shows character
Mervyn King threw an average of over 102 tonight, but still had to lose it against Jose de Sousa. King was on the lead for almost the entire match, but was unable to win the all-deciding leg: 10-9.
Nathan Aspinall, the 2019 UK Open winner, lost his match against Krzysztof Ratajski 10-5. Both men averaged over 100, but it was the Pole who was the better of the two.
Rob Cross has gotten through the eye of the needle. The Englishman was behind by no less than 7-3, fought back nicely and eventually beat Andy Hamilton 10-8.
Cullen loses again in the nick of time, Searle and Clayton on
Joe Cullen is out again with the finish line in sight. ‘The Rockstar’ had a 5-1 lead, but was unable to prevent a deciding leg from having to be played. In that last leg it was ‘Bully Boy’ who threw the last double: 10-9.
Ryan Searle is through to the next round at the expense of Adrian Lewis. Searle averaged a whopping 103.5 and unceremoniously sent home the 2014 UK Open winner.
Clayton is the current winner of The Masters and has received the last ticket to the Premier League. So ‘The Ferret’ is in good shape, but had a hard time against Rowby-John Rodriguez. The Welsh man was the winner and won 10-7.
Wade also wins thriller, Soutar, Suljovic and Woodhouse
James Wade had a hard time with Ryan Joyce. After an all-deciding leg, it was ‘The Machine’ who moves on to the next round: 10-9.
Alan Soutar, the man who eliminated Raymond van Barneveld, is through to the last 32 by also beating the Englishman Stephen Bunting. In the end it became 10-5 for the Scot.
Mensur Suljovic managed to beat Pole Sebastian Bialecki 10-6 tonight. Bialecki threw a 9-darter earlier in the day, gave up one a round later, but had to bow to ‘The Gentle’ in the fourth round.
Luke Woodhouse won quite easily against the Belgian Dimitri Van den Bergh. ‘The Dream Maker’ did not give home tonight and was down 10-5.
