(AFP) – France could follow the example of its Luxembourg neighbor by reopening its terraces from mid-May. Announced by French President Emmanuel Macron in his last speech, the measure tends to materialize according to an AFP source close to the executive. The defense council decides this Wednesday on a gradual easing of health restrictions.

Subject to a third confinement since the end of March, the French could in the course of May return to “non-essential” shops and especially find their way back to museums, cinemas and theaters. Gauges should be set up, depending on the territory with a minimum threshold of 35%, which would vary depending on the level of circulation of the virus.

Even with a limited audience, this prospect should delight places of culture, closed since the start of the pandemic. Exit certificates should also disappear with the end of the travel restriction to 10 kilometers from home.

On the other hand, several points still remain to be discussed. Starting with the curfew, which the most cautious in the government would like to see delayed by one hour at most in metropolitan France, while supporters of the reopening plead for 11:00 p.m. In similar cases, the head of state has often opted for a mid-way compromise. The calendar of the next stages of opening (sports halls, nightclubs, festivals etc …) also remains to be specified.

The executive is also considering deploying self-tests in schools that the High Authority for Health should authorize this week. In this case, it will be necessary to organize the way in which they would be offered to the students, always according to the source close to the executive.

As he had indicated at the end of March, Emmanuel Macron will himself speak again to announce the modalities of the reopening, probably by the first week of May, according to the AFP source.

These prospects reflect the conviction, at the Elysee Palace as at Matignon, that the number of contaminations will fall to around 20,000 per day within a month and that the target of 20 million vaccinated with at least one dose, planned for mid-May. , will be reached. According to the latest figures from the French Ministry of Health, 5 million people have tested positive for covid and 12 million people have received at least one vaccine dose.
