Athlete Femke Bol starts on Friday on her assignment to conquer the European title at 400 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland. The 21-year-old from Amersfoort has to qualify for the final on Saturday through the series and the semi-finals. Bol improved the Dutch record in the 400 meters four times this winter and leads by far the European rankings for this indoor season.
Her friend Lieke Klaver is one of her biggest competitors for gold. Klaver, even more of a 200 meter specialist, ran the second fastest time of this year in Europe with 51.21. Bol will run in the first of seven series, Klaver in the second.
Maureen Koster runs the final of the 3000 meters in the evening session and Jessica Schilder comes out in the final of the shot put. Nadine Broersen also finishes the pentathlon. The Dongense experienced its indoor peak in 2014 with the world title in Sopot, Poland. Her 4830 points from that tournament are still the Dutch record.
A total of fifteen Dutch athletes will take action on Friday.
