You will see the “Metalhead” meeting on five stages with protagonists like Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Thundermother, Judas Priest, Powerwolf, Rose Tattoo and many others.
Review of the last Wacken in summer 2020 – only virtual because of Covid-19
Wacken World Wide, i.e. the corona-related virtual replacement for the annual Wacken Open Air in northern Germany, started on July 29th, 2020 at 4:55 p.m. with a “prelude”, so to speak. On magenta-musik-360.de, heavy metal fans could take part in Wacken World Wide from 4:55 p.m. On Thursday the music festival continued!
Interested parties can find the current schedule on the website wacken-world-wide.com. The performances were then available on MagentaMusik 360 and MagentaTV in the mega library.
Because the Wacken Open Air is tough, but Corona was tougher: Because of the Covid 19 pandemic, the heavy metal festival Wacken Open Air, which has been held every summer since 1990, did not take place in Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein in 2020. An estimated 70,000 (old) rockers in a small space simply did not comply with the official orders to combat the pandemic. But there was a digital replacement: Wacken World Wide.
The organizers shifted the heavy metal event to the internet. As Wacken World Wide, it took place from July 30th to August 1st. There should be a mixed reality stage, which was supported by Deutsche Telekom. Telekom, already a long-standing partner of the Wacken Festival, also used the virtual hard rock festival to boost its image.
Kreator, Blind Guardian, In Extremo and other bands performed live at Wacken Open Air. The fans – among whom there are likely to be many old rockers who have already turned gray with dignity – were able to follow the Wacken Open Air free of charge live on MagentaMusik 360, MagentaTV, in the MagentaMusik 360 app and in the #DABEI program from July 30th to August 1st, 2020 . #DABEI is the linear TV channel that Deutsche Telekom launched for the corona crisis and which Telekom is now continuing as an event channel.
For three days, the metal bands performed live on the virtual stage. The so-called XR technology brought the stage to life digitally, as Telekom put it in an effective advertising manner. The artists performed live, were filmed in real time with camera tracking and integrated directly into the virtual set. The LED back wall, the LED floor and fan interaction should create an authentic stage feeling for artists and spectators. With the Galaxy S20, partner Samsung offered the right end device for the mixed reality experience.
Real live performances, light shows and stage effects were to be combined with the virtual Wacken set through production in a specially built mixed reality studio. In addition to live shows by artists, fans could look forward to numerous surprises, exciting background stories and the best performances from 30 years of Wacken, as Telekom promised.
