Geforce RTX 4090: Nvidia GPU already in the test phase

The first benchmarks could soon appear for the GPU AD102, which serves as the basis for the Geforce RTX 4090.

With the RTX 4000 series, Nvidia will soon be presenting its new graphics cards for gamers. The flagship, the Geforce RTX 4090, is expected to be based on the AD102 GPU. This chip should already be in the test phase. Nvidia is apparently in possession of a working model of the high-end graphics card. At least that’s what the leaker claims

. The basic features of the GPU are now complete, and now the clock rates have to be maximized. The board partners should therefore soon be supplied with the first samples. By then at the latest, the first benchmarks of the RTX 4090 could appear.

More shaders and faster memory

What is certain is that the RTX 4090 should make a significant leap in performance compared to the current RTX 3090 model. Nvidia is said to rely on a much more modern production and also accommodate 18,432 instead of 10,752 shaders on the chip. Faster memory should also increase performance.

Double performance?

Nvidia currently uses memory with a maximum speed of 21 Gbit/s. Instead, VRAM chips with up to 24 Gbit/s should be used on the RTX 4090. Nvidia will also increase the cache in the new Geforce models. It is therefore quite conceivable that the RTX 4090 will offer roughly twice the performance of the manufacturer’s current top model.

Strong competition

Such a high increase in performance could also be urgently possible. Finally, AMD wants to launch its new RX-7000 graphics cards in the second half of 2022. In the middle of the year, Intel would also like to offer its own graphics cards again for the first time.
