The former flagship project of Deutsche Post Streetscooter will be discontinued next year, as Deutsche Post announced in February. With the production of the electric van, the group wanted to make its vehicle fleet more climate-friendly. However, Streetscooter made a loss of over 100 million euros in 2019.

Deutsche Post has long tried to find a buyer for street scooters, but in vain. Now Green MP Oliver Krischer has campaigned for the e-transporter, as reported by Spiegel.

Letter to Elon Musk himself

The member of the Bundestag for the Greens is said to have personally written a letter to Tesla boss Elon Musk. In this he asked him to buy the Aachen-based manufacturer of electric vans and to continue production under the leadership of Tesla.

Kirscher writes that the company is innovative, has a successful product range and has sold more than 15,000 vehicles in Germany in a very short time. Nevertheless, the current owner, Deutsche Post DHL, wants to sell the company – for irrelevant reasons.

Under the leadership of Tesla, Streetscooter would develop excellently, says the politician. There is little competition, but there is a high demand for e-vans – especially in large cities.
