Harry Styles opens the Grammy Awards

Good news for Harry Styles fans who want to watch the Grammy Awards especially for him. The British singer will kick off the ceremony with a performance. It is not yet known which song (s) he will perform exactly.

Harry Styles is one of the artists who will perform at the Grammys this weekend. That was already announced a week ago. But now the Recording Academy (which runs the Grammys) has released even more information through its website.

Harry Styles

Harry Styles fans won’t have to wait long to see their idol at work at the Grammys. The 27-year-old Brit will be the first artist to perform that evening. Which song (s) he will perform exactly, the organization and the singer did not want to say.

Contenders are in all certain Watermelon Sugar and Adore You. With those songs Harry Styles has been nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Music Video respectively. His album ‘Fine Line’ has a chance to win the award in the category Best Pop Vocal Album.

Fourth solo artist of the decade

Harry Styles is only the fourth solo artist to open the ceremony in the past decade. He is also the first man to receive that honor during that period. Taylor Swift opened the ceremony in 2013 and 2016. In 2017, Adele did the same. And last year, the honor went to Lizzo.

Grammys

In recent weeks (and months) there has been a lot of criticism at the Grammy Awards. For example, The Weeknd already announced that he “will no longer allow his label to submit music for the Grammys”. He says he does this because it uses “secret committees” that decide who is nominated and who ultimately wins.

The Canadian has had an impressive year. For example, he performed at halftime of the legendary Super Bowl at the beginning of February. The Halftime Show is a spectacle every year, but The Weeknd has spared no expense for its fifteen minute performance. Despite its success over the past year, The Weeknd was never nominated for any Grammys.
