Crossover is the new magic word for manufacturers. This means that classic SUVs are slowly being pushed aside, while the successors are becoming flatter and more aerodynamic again. But is the idea really that new? No, Honda has been doing this with its CR-V for decades. Ground clearance like a station wagon and an at most rudimentary all-wheel drive – nobody would come up with the idea CR-V to drive off-road.

But since hardly anyone else does this with an SUV, the small Japanese manufacturer prefers to concentrate on it forgotten virtues such as deep door cutouts and low loading sill. Disappear if necessary 589 to 1669 liters in the stern. Then the only gasoline engine in the range has plenty to do.
The two-liter vacuum cleaner runs cultivated and reliable, but requires plenty of speed for performance.
Honda CR-V: The petrol engine has 155 hp, diesel is available with 120 and 150 hp
Of the Due to its design, the two-liter vacuum cleaner only delivers its 155 hp high up in dizzying speed regions. Hardly suited to the cozy character of the CR-V and also a guarantee for double-digit consumption values. When gliding calmly, however, everyone can experience the mechanical perfection that brought Honda its good reputation as an engine builder. The one pushed up 1.6-liter diesel with either 120 or 150 hp works grumpy, but fits better with its power from below to the CR-V. If Manual or automatic transmission remains a question of faith. Both work perfectly and hold up. Only those who have to pull a lot should shift better.

While the gasoline engine can take 1.7 tons on the hook, the limit for the powerful diesel drops from an acceptable two with the change to an automatic plenty of subtle 1.5 tons. The leisurely country trip sabotages the chassis, the set-up of which turned out to be a bit stubborn and hard, especially without a load. Fortunately, this deficit is made by the very comfortable and long-distance seats caught something. Typically Honda: the very precise and smooth steering.
Lots of buttons, mini screen. This is what the cockpits looked like in earlier years. There is definitely room for improvement in the processing.
You look in vain for modern assistance systems
The brand also traditionally includes the good TÜV grades. Of the CR-V is no exception. Here and there the light setting is wrong, batteries can be discharged – odds and ends. One looks for design-related weaknesses in the CR-V on the other hand in vain. Only the feel of the interior lags a bit behind the otherwise harmonious idea. You could still live with the old-fashioned big keys, with the permanent ones Crackling and rattling noises and cheap plastics find it harder. And Honda also owes its customers modern assistance systems or contemporary infotainment.
Annoying, especially the one CR-V is not a bargain. There are only six-figure mileages for less than 15,000 euros. Our photo car from the Butenbremer dealership in Stuhr near Bremen has new cost around 30,000 euros, after three years it should cost 20,000 euros bring a good two thirds – and is one of the better offers. With all niche existence, the qualities of the good CR-V apparently the word got around.
