How many of the three corona vaccines has our country ordered?

Three promising corona vaccines are on their way to the final stage for official approval. These are vaccines from Pfizer and BioNTech, AstraZeneca in collaboration with the University of Oxford and Moderna. But how many of those vaccines has our country ordered?

Pfizer-BioNTech

Moderna

  • Based on preliminary results, the Moderna mRNA-1273 vaccine would be 94.5 percent efficient.
  • That vaccine should be “only” kept at -20 degrees during transport.
  • You need to be vaccinated twice with this vaccine to be protected.
  • The European Union is in the final negotiation phase for an order of 80 million doses with an option for another 80 million.
  • Belgium ordered 4 million doses of this, good for 2 million people.

AstraZeneca-Oxford

  • The British-Swedish pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca announced on Thursday that studies show that the vaccine works up a strong immune response in the elderly.
  • This vaccine has the advantage that it is a lot cheaper than the other two.
  • You need to be vaccinated twice with this vaccine to be protected.
  • The European Union signed a deal with AstraZeneca for 300 million doses with an option for an additional 100 million.
  • Our country has reserved about 7.7 million doses of this, good for 3.85 million people.

Other vaccines?

In addition to these three vaccines, which can present the most promising test results at the moment, many more potential corona vaccines are in development. The European Union also concluded with these companies as a preliminary agreement for an order. These orders will eventually only go through when the vaccine receives approval from the European medicines authority EMA.

This includes Sanofi-GSK (300 million doses), Johnson & Johnson (200 million doses + option for another 200 million) and CureVac (225 million doses).
