Hummer EV: the electric pick-up with the power of three electric motors

By normal standards you don’t even have to try it with the new GMC Hummer. All-new on the variable Ultium platform, the all-terrain legend is now electric and massive in every way. That and the expansion of the Hummer into a whole model family should fill the somewhat boring GM brand GMC with new life on the home market.

It starts with the Hummer as a pick-up, which could not only arouse enthusiasm among fans of the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado or Dodge Ram. The 5.50 meter long car weighs an impressive 4.3 tons, with which the drive still has an easy time thanks to 1000 hp and 1620 Nm torque. In almost insane 3.5 seconds, the Hummer EV storms to 100 km/h and manages a maximum of 160 things. The thrust of the three electric motors is simply breathtaking.

Nobody believes you: Despite its 4.3 tons, the Hummer EV goes from zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

But of course the Hummer also shows its qualities off-road. The ease with which the electric mega pick-up digs through deep ruts, sand and rubble is impressive. Despite the weight of its size, the colossus is surprisingly agile. The intelligent all-wheel steering reduces the turning circle from 13.5 to 11.3 meters. In addition, the front axle can be locked electronically, and the top model’s two electric motors on the rear axle can be controlled individually for optimum traction.

It can also water: With a wading depth of 81 centimetres, even deeper puddles are no problem for the Hummer EV.

The terrain remains Hummer terrain

The various driving modes can be controlled via the screen or a switch on the wide center tunnel. You can switch to one-pedal mode using the shift paddle on the left of the steering wheel; then the electric monster can be moved uphill and downhill in a particularly filigree manner without using the brake pedal. 40 centimeters of ground clearance and 81 centimeters wading depth take the fear out of difficult terrain.

The Hummer EV draws its power from a 910-kilogram battery pack in the underbody, which sets new standards in terms of capacity with a whopping 208 kWh. According to the manufacturer, there is a range of over 520 kilometers. And if the drum runs out of juice, it can be recharged with up to 350 kW. Electricity for 160 kilometers can be refueled in a slim ten minutes.

More appearances than reality: With the large displays, the Hummer EV is modern, but the amount of plastic doesn’t match the high price.

There is potential for optimization in the interior

The interior, on the other hand, leaves something to be desired, it is rather moderate given the high price of the vehicle. After all, there is plenty of space in the front and rear, the seating is wide, but could offer more lateral support. The plastic desert on the dashboard may be a matter of taste, but it looks beautiful and really valuable but definitely different. But somehow the lobster of modern times presents itself exactly as one would have expected.

Expensive: Edition 1, which is already out of stock, cost around $110,000. From now on it starts at $106,000.

At the checkout, the lobster is plentiful

The $110,000 Edition 1 Hummer EV sold out immediately, so we’ll just have to wait. Positioned below the top model is the Hummer EV 3X for around $106,000. The two basic versions, each with just one motor on the front and rear axles, will probably not be available until the end of 2023 at the earliest – with prices starting at 86,000 US dollars. A start in Europe is still in the stars.
