Hyundai, Kia and Genesis: all new models by 2024

Ever since car designer Peter Schreyer moved from the Volkswagen Group to Korea in 2006, the two sister brands Hyundai and Kia have seen a steep upward trend. Hyundai cannot be fooled technologically either: As early as 2018, the Koreans presented the Hyundai Nexo fuel cell car and the successor to the ix35 Fuel Cell. And with the N models, Hyundai is at the forefront of the sporty compacts. The quality is also right: Hyundai and Kia can now compete with the big players in the industry. Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis has also been represented in Germany again since summer 2021 and is gradually expanding the model range.

Hyundai started the electric car offensive as early as 2020

Unlike other manufacturers, Hyundai, Kia and Genesis have not yet named a specific date for the combustion engine phase-out. Hyundai started its electric offensive as early as 2020 under the new brand name Ioniqt, the vehicles are on a new platform and are equipped with the fast 800-volt technology for charging. Of the Ioniq 5 is already being sold with the EV6 there is already a counterpart from Kia; the version of Genesis is called GV60 and should hit the market in 2022. Then the sports sedan will probably follow Ioniq 6 based on the design of the Prophecy study. The big SUV should be in 2024 Ioniq 7 be ready for series production, shortly afterwards Kia’s variant should be EV9 follow.

These three models will become important in the next few years

1. Hyundai Ioniq 5 N – Hyundai’s first electric sports model
The Ioniq 5 is likely to be the first electric car that Hyundai’s sports brand N is dedicated to. The drive could come from the sister brand Kia, which will also offer the EV6 as a GT model. There, two electric motors generate 585 hp (430 kW) and 740 Nm, which should bring the car to a hundred in 3.5 seconds. Because of the smaller battery at Hyundai (72.6 kW instead of 77.4 kW at Kia), the performance should be a bit lower, rumor has it that it is around 570 hp. The whole thing is rounded off by a sports chassis, large brakes and lightweight rims.
2. New Kia Sportage – for the first time a separate model for Europe
With the fifth generation of the SUV, there is a European version for the first time. The main difference is the length. While our SUV is 4,515 millimeters long, the global model measures 149 millimeters more. The Sportage takes over the angular, sturdy look from the EV6; the electric SUV also delivers the new glass panel, under which the digital speedometer and the infotainment screen become one Widescreen merge. The new driver assistants include a function that shows the driver a camera image from the blind spot when the lights are blinking. On the engine side, there is now also a plug-in hybrid drive.
3. Hyundai Ioniq 7 – Santa Fe-sized electric SUV
Hyundai wants to bring the electric SUV into series production in 2024 – a study has already shown what it could look like. The dimensions are comparable to those of the Santa Fe, but the design is much beefier. Above all, the huge, black area on the front at, which sits below the continuous strip of lights and is criss-crossed by illuminated rectangles. We already know this pixel design from the Ioniq 5. There will be an optional 313 PS (230 kW) four-wheel drive, 480 kilometers Range are possible thanks to a 100 kWh battery. 800-volt technology for fast charging is considered to have been set.
