Just a few days after my last day at work in October 2019, my partner and I started looking for flights to New Zealand. That was our first concrete step to realize our plan: We wanted to give up our jobs in the USA and travel the world.

After years of saving, we flew to New Zealand and immediately bought a campervan. We wanted to take advantage of the wildcamp program there. This program allows those who own a certified, self-contained vehicle to stay overnight in hundreds of locations across the country for free.

We have been on the road for about two months since then. Since our travel plans have been put on hold due to the corona pandemic, I now had plenty of time to think about everything I have learned about van life so far.
