Launched last year at an unbeatable price, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV dominates sales in the Chinese market. Such a success that the manufacturer would consider launching it on other markets.
If Tesla remains at the head of the premium market with its Model 3, it is another electric which takes first place in sales of electric cars in China. Marketed for only 3,700 euros, the small Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV attracted twice as many buyers in January as Tesla’s star electric car. According to figures released by the Chinese Association of Car Manufacturers (CPCA), 25,778 copies of the low-cost electric city car were sold in January against 13,843 for the Model 3.
Soon in Europe?
The result of a joint venture between SAIC and General Motors, Wuling launched its small electric car on the Chinese market last summer. Offering 100 km / h of maximum speed and 170 km of range, the Hongguang Mini EV immediately became a resounding success. In the second half of 2020, it sold more than 112,000 copies. Such a success that Wuling would consider expanding its marketing to other markets.
For Europe, the manufacturer has already had contacts with Dartz, a brand based in Latvia. According to the German daily Automobilwoche, the Latvian firm could take over the patents to manufacture the car on European soil. It would be launched there under the name Dartz FreZe Nikrob but probably at a price more suited to the European market.
