14 days of isolation: this is the fate that could be reserved for people arriving from abroad in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. A strict measure to limit the spread of covid-19.

(AFP) – The declaration is signed by the minister responsible for Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis: “People arriving in the United Kingdom will have to quarantine themselves” in order to “contain” the rate of transmission of the disease. “Obviously, returning British citizens will be able to quarantine themselves at home. Visitors will have to make arrangements to carry out this quarantine for 14 days, ”he added.

This measure, which will be reviewed “every three weeks” according to the minister, must accompany the gradual deconfinement of the country which must start from June 1 in case of progress in the fight against the pandemic. Brandon Lewis clarified that there is no exemption “for the time being” for travelers arriving from countries with low transmission rates.

According to the British press, travelers will be subject to random checks and offenders face a fine of 1,000 pounds (around 1,117 euros). Exceptions are, however, made for road hauliers and medical personnel, as well as for the Irish, but not for travelers arriving from France, as London and Paris had recently suggested.
