The “Swipe Up” function in Instagram stories has had its day since August 30, 2021. In their place there are now so-called
Link sticker
– in fact
for each account
. Originally, the “wiping up” in the stories was intended to link to websites or sales platforms, but this was only available to verified accounts or accounts with more than 10,000 subscribers. With the new link stickers everyone can share links in their stories, no matter how small or large their own fan base is.
How to put a link on your Instagram story
-
Open a new Instagram story and click the sticker icon on the top bar.
-
Scroll down a bit until you find the Link sticker and select it.
-
Enter the desired URL and confirm with “Done”.
-
Drag the sticker anywhere in your story. To change its color, you can tap it several times, as is common with hashtag stickers, for example.
-
Finally publish your story by clicking on “Send to” or “Your story” / “Close friends”.
Who is not allowed to set links?
According to Instagram, there are two exceptional cases in which the link sticker is denied:
-
When the account
within the last 30 days
was created to prevent abuse by fake accounts. The link stickers will be activated automatically after one month.
-
If the user has repeatedly violated Instagram’s community guidelines. Who on
linked to prohibited or problematic sites,
must expect the link function to be withdrawn.
