JPGAMES.DE: Eric’s Games of the Year 2020

The year 2020 is drawing to a close and the JPGames.de team wants to present its games of the year for the sixth time this year. Every day until December 31st some team members will present three favorites of 2020 as well as the most anticipated titles of the next year – today it’s Eric (Roflcopterskater).

Eric’s Games of the Year

3rd place: The Last of Us Part II

I have to put a disclaimer first: The Last of Us Part II was created under absolutely miserable circumstances and I am absolutely against the way Naughty Dog treated its employees here. That’s why I only borrowed the game from someone and not bought it myself. Unfortunately I have to admit that with the second offshoot of The Last of Us they finally released a really brilliant title. I never wanted a successor because I loved the end of the first part. The second part played in a very good way with the consequences of the actions of the predecessor and broke with conventional “hero and villain” stereotypes. I really liked the story, as much as I hate to actually say it. But please let it be good with Ellie – I wouldn’t mind more stories in the world of The Last of Us. But then please under better working conditions.

2nd place: Hyrule Warriors – Time of Desolation

What a great game! At first I was a little sad that you can really only play characters from Breath of the Wild in this Hyrule Warriors. But the story was so incredibly good and well staged, and the playable fighters were all great and mega imaginative. One or the other character lured a loud “WHAT THE F-word” out of me when unlocking, because I was just so surprised. The gameplay is one of the best types I’ve seen in a Warriors game. My only point of criticism is actually the length of the game: Once you have unlocked all the characters, the game is actually over and you no longer have any real use for the characters. But rather like this than unnecessarily stretching the game.

1st place: Persona 5 Royal

I just can’t help but place my game of the year here. Persona 5 Royal was just about everything I wanted. The new story lines and characters were seamlessly incorporated and expanded the story of the original in a meaningful way. There were great new twists and useful improvements that make the gaming experience a lot easier, even for newcomers. I love Persona 5 Royal like it’s my first born. The game entertained me in a way that not even going to the toilet after three days of constipation could. And I can already tell you that next year Persona 5 Strikers will very likely be number 1 in my top 2020. Sorry, not sorry.

Honorable mentions

I’m afraid I somehow haven’t played as many current titles this year as I thought. Of course you have to Animal Crossing: New Horizons Mention which helped to get through the first lockdown halfway. Also Genshin Impact I can’t leave it unmentioned. Apart from the gacha elements, it is an incredibly good free game, which can convince with great gameplay and great story. And Moero Crystal H.simply because it made my perverted weeb heart beat faster. I would like to be here too Fairy tail mentioned, but I didn’t play that because I was so annoyed about my purchase for the release. The reason is the Season Pass and the fact that Levy is only available as an expensive DLC character. Please remind me never to buy Gust games at release again.

Most Wanted 2021

I have already teased it: Of course, I’m currently looking forward to it the most Persona 5 Strikers. However, other titles are also of interest to me. This includes, for example, the re-release of Super Mario 3D World, which is one of my favorite Mario games ever AND it will appear on my birthday. Perfect! Also Pokémon Snap I eagerly await and a bit I hope that next year there will be a new expansion too Final Fantasy XIV will appear.

The entire JPGames team wishes you a Happy New Year 2021!
