JPGAMES.DE: Marco’s Games of the Year 2020

The year 2020 is drawing to a close and the JPGames.de team wants to present its games of the year for the sixth time this year. Every day until December 31st, some team members will present three favorites for 2020 as well as the most anticipated titles for next year – today it’s Marco’s turn.

Marcos Games of the Year

3rd place: Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII has always held a special place in my heart. Because it was the first JRPG and the first Final Fantasy I ever played. The remake lives up to the original and skillfully brings out its strengths. The atmosphere and the design of the world and the characters still make FFVII the best Final Fantasy part for me. For the remake, in addition to the graphics, the sound and the combat system were revised and adapted to today’s standards. Even if many fans do not agree with the new combat system, in my opinion this adjustment was still an important step to make the title appealing to today’s generation of players. For me the remake of Final Fantasy VII is one of the best remakes ever and a clear recommendation for anyone who can do something with JRPGs or who likes the Final Fantasy series.

2nd place: Cyberpunk 2077

Seldom have I been looking forward to a title as long and so eagerly as Cyberpunk 2077. Since the setting alone causes me storms of enthusiasm, I couldn’t wait to finally immerse myself in the wonderfully hazy atmosphere of Night City. Cyberpunk 2077 is bursting with imaginative quests and interesting features, and Night City is an interesting and dangerous setting. Actually everything I had hoped for from the title, if it weren’t for the innumerable and sometimes even progress-destroying bugs. Thanks to such a bug, I was able to start all over again after about 5 hours of play. While that’s annoying, Cyberpunk 2077 is exactly what I was hoping for a title of this kind. Despite the many bugs and glitches, I can say that Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely worth a look, just because of the wonderfully dystopian atmosphere and the beautiful game world.

1st place: Ghost of Tsushima

A game like a work of art. Stressful, exciting and never really boring. Ghost of Tsushima shows how impressively games can convey emotions. I have rarely had goosebumps like this while playing. A masterpiece that truly deserves the title Game of the Year. The code and the samurai’s attitude towards life has never been processed so accurately in game form. For this alone the developer Sucker Punch deserves the greatest respect. So here I can make a clear recommendation for anyone who can even begin to do something with the topic.

Most Wanted 2021

For 2021, I’m primarily hoping for a few patches for Cyberpunk 2077, because I like the game too much to maybe leave it behind because of the bugs.

When it comes to new releases, I’m most interested in Starfield. Even if you haven’t really found out much about the title yet, I imagine the idea behind it to be very exciting. I therefore hope that there will finally be new details about the upcoming Bethesda project in 2021.

I’m also looking forward to Resident Evil Village. Since I had a lot of fun with the two remakes of 2 and 3 and part 7 was a stunner in VR, I have high expectations for the latest part in the series.

The entire JPGames team wishes you a Happy New Year 2021!
