Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens) has in Ö1 Journal as a guest more funds for the protection of women against violence announced. There is an “urgent need for action” here, because “eleven murders are eleven murders too many,” said Zadic.
However, she did not give any specific figures, the government was still in the process of voting. Experts are calling for the budget to be increased from the current 14.5 to a total of over 200 million euros. In terms of victim protection, the psychosocial and legal care of those affected should be strengthened, explained Zadic. According to experts, only about ten percent are currently supported accordingly.
The Justice Minister also sees a problem with the “far too low conviction rate in the area of domestic violence”. It is to be countered with additional training programs for police officers, judges and public prosecutors.
When asked about the reform of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Fight against Terrorism (BVT), Zadic took a clear position: There should still be raids on authorities. The handling exclusively through administrative assistance procedures is not sufficient for the fight against corruption.
