RB Leipzig appears to be a tormentor for FSV Mainz this season. After the team of trainer Julian Nagelmann had previously recorded a record score at home with 8-0, it was also a punishment in Mainz: 0-5. Timo Werner accounted for three hits. Thanks to the win, Leipzig ended up again in third place in the Bundesliga, behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
Mainz, just above the line in the lower regions of the Bundesliga, started with three Dutchmen in the base: Jeremiah St. Juste, Jeffrey Bruma and Jean-Paul Boëtius. The team drew 2-2 with FC Köln when the competition resumed last week, but RB Leipzig again proved to be an opponent of a different order. Werner gave the guests the lead in the 11th minute with a tighter on the instructions of Konrad Laimer. Eleven minutes later, Yussuf Poulsen headed out of a cross by Marcel Sabitzer, who himself scored the 0-3 ten minutes before half-time.
Shortly after half time, Bruma had now been substituted, Werner was good for his second goal after a completed attack. Fifteen minutes before time, while Boëtius had also been replaced, his third and his 24th of the season followed.
