14 days of isolation. This is now the fate reserved for people coming from the Grand Duchy from this Friday. A measure aimed at limiting the spread of covid-19.

No way to loosen the screw for the holidays. While a test is now required to return to Portugal, the United Kingdom announced, Tuesday evening, the compulsory fortnight of Luxembourg residents. A measure in force, “in principle”, since Wednesday at midnight, specifies the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Travelers from Luxembourg are now required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days. On arrival, Luxembourg residents must also complete a form.

While some countries such as Germany allow entry into their territory upon presentation of proof, this is not the case for the United Kingdom. A medical certificate or proof of a negative covid test does not therefore constitute a ground for exemption from the obligation of self-isolation.

On the other hand, transit by air remains possible without the obligation to self-isolate “in the event that you do not have to pass border control”, specifies the ministry. However, the regulations may vary slightly depending on the final destination, i.e. England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

As a reminder, six flights a day connect the British capital to Luxembourg. The financial center and the City of London in fact maintain close links. The new restrictive measures could thus have major consequences for the marketplace.
