At the end of April, Activision Blizzard surprised by the fact that the latest Diablo offshoot “Diablo Immortal”, which was actually planned as a pure mobile game, is now being released for the PC. But due to the integrated loot box system, not all fans will be able to enjoy “Diablo Immortal”.

Loot boxes complicate release in Belgium and the Netherlands
Due to the loot boxes used in the game, the game will not be released in the countries of Belgium and the Netherlands, reports PC Gamer, citing Dutch gaming website Tweakers. For example, pre-registration for Diablo Immortal was disabled in Belgium and the Netherlands a few days after it was released on the App Store and Google Play. A spokesman for Activision Blizzard told the site that the removal
“is related to the current operating conditions for games in these countries”.
More specifically, a Blizzard support rep put it on the Diablo Immortal subreddit:
“Unfortunately players in the Netherlands and Belgium cannot install Diablo Immortal due to gambling restrictions in those countries”,
it says there.
“The in-game loot boxes are against the law in your country, so the game will not be released in the Netherlands and Belgium until gambling restrictions change.”
VPN use could lead to ban
In addition, players were warned against circumventing these bans, for example by using a VPN. This could lead to bans, but bear in mind another quote from Blizzard when making this statement:
“[…] in similar situations in the past where RNG loot boxes were against the law in certain countries, no players were banned by us because of it.”
