Lufthansa: 2.6 billion euros spent on corona ticket refunds

Around six million applications processed.

Lufthansa reports that it has “largely” processed the reimbursement applications from the first half of the year. According to the announcement, six million refunds with a total volume of 2.6 billion euros have been paid. About 1.1 million applications are still open – “Cases that require more intensive processing,” it says.

The batch of ticket refunds would continue to run because flights continue to have to be canceled or passengers are canceled, for example due to travel warnings. The group currently received three times as many applications as before the pandemic. According to its own statements, subsidiary Austrian has paid out over 120 million euros so far.
