Football legend Diego Maradona will be released from hospital later Wednesday and transferred to a rehabilitation clinic to treat his alcohol addiction. His lawyer Matias Morla has announced this.
The former star of Napoli and Boca Juniors, among others, was admitted to a hospital in La Plata last week, a few days after his 60th birthday. He showed signs of anemia and dehydration. After a blood clot between his brain and skull was found during a scan, he was taken to a hospital in the Argentinian capital where an operation followed.
According to Morla, Gimnasia y Esgrima’s 60-year-old coach is transferred to a clinic where only a few friends have access to him. “Diego is doing well and wants to follow a drug addiction program. He will leave the hospital today,” the lawyer said on Wednesday.
“Diego has probably been through the most difficult moment of his life and I think it was a miracle they found the bleeding in his brain that might have killed him,” said Morla.
