Microsoft announces the smallest Xbox Series S: a model for only 300 euros

Rumors circulated on the Internet for a long time, but it has now been officially confirmed: In addition to the Xbox Series X, Microsoft will be launching another model that costs less and is smaller. The Xbox Series S will be the “most compact Xbox of all time”, as “Heise Online” reports. The price is an announcement to competitor Sony: The next-gen console will cost only 299 euros.

In contrast to the larger model, the Xbox Series S does not have a Blu-Ray drive and can therefore only play and download titles digitally. This is nothing new and was already possible with the Xbox One S. Rumors of a second version of the new next-gen console from Microsoft have existed since 2018. After the first leaks, Microsoft has now officially confirmed the rumor on Twitter and has already announced the first technical details.

Series S not as powerful as Series X

Accordingly, the console has eight Zen 2 processor cores like the Series X. The performance of the Series S will still be a bit lower. The compact model has only four instead of twelve teraflops available. The console is designed for HD gaming up to 120 FPS, but can also offer 4K resolution, according to the manufacturer.

The Xbox Series X price was also published by the Windows Central tech portal. Accordingly, this should be 499 euros and would be on the level of the previous version. The site also said the consoles should hit stores on November 10th. Microsoft remains silent about the release date and has not yet officially confirmed anything.
