Good year for Xbox division
According to its own statements, Microsoft was able to grab the top position in sales figures in the USA in the first quarter with its consoles. Since March 2011, you have not been able to sell as many Xbox consoles as this year. Microsoft, on the other hand, made its biggest profits in March 2014, a few months after the Xbox One went on sale.
Switch dominates market
Nevertheless, Microsoft has to admit defeat to the competition. Nintendo’s Switch is clearly ahead in terms of sales. In fiscal year 2021, which ended in March, Nintendo sold 28.83 million copies of the Switch. Sony’s Playstation 5 is also selling well and is well ahead of the Xbox: last year, Sony was able to sell 12.59 million units of its Playstation 5. Microsoft had 8.75 million Xbox consoles in the same period. Current sales figures for the two platforms for 2022 are not yet available.
