It depends on how you look at it: For some, the constant hopping from the rear axle is a soothing massage for the back, for others nothing more than a gross lack of suspension comfort. But the L200 manufactured in the Thai Mitsubishi plant does not differ much from other pick-ups in this respect.

After all, the purpose is not the greatest possible travel comfort, but the greatest possible endurance – despite years of riding over bumpy slopes in developing and emerging countries, despite constant overloading, despite rough repair techniques, despite the lack of maintenance. One would think that such a pick-up would have eternal life here in the motherland of car care.
The biggest enemy of the Mitsubishi L200 is road salt
Wrong thought, because here the streets may be reasonably well asphalted and the worst potholes are quickly patched by the road construction authorities for reasons of legal liability. But the biggest enemy of the Mitsubishi L200 is not the huge pothole on the main street of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, but the Central European road salt.
Sure, the pothole also leaves its mark on the chassis, which is not exactly oversized L200 of Generation 4, which is what we are talking about here. But in Ouagadougou there is no serious control body that examines the joints and bushings of the front independent wheel suspension and steering and then writes an official defect report if the permissible tolerances are exceeded.
The Mitsubishi L200 is sadly rusting away in this country
We have something like that, which is why so many people in this country L200 – especially if it was pimped up with wide wheels – a fresh sticker is refused during the main inspection (HU).
The second HU-relevant problem has L200-Owners in Ouagadougou also not: rust damage. Of course, cars also rust in developing countries, especially if they are close to the coast. But there are no serious winters there. And if they do, at least no aggressive road salt is thrown onto the streets, which makes traffic safer and smoother, but crassly accelerates rusting.
210 millimeters of ground clearance and a 33-degree approach angle – you can step on the gas off-road.
Cars can be protected against corrosion, but that costs either the vehicle manufacturer time and money or the vehicle owner – namely if the corrosion protection is applied later. But because only very few first-time owners do L200 do and whose factory rust prevention only meets the minimum standard for summer regions of the world, this pick-up is sadly rusting in this country.
Whether it’s the ladder frame or the driver’s cab screwed onto it or the unscrewable loading platform – everything will rust early if the previous owner didn’t take precautions.
Several minor vulnerabilities should be checked
It has minor vulnerabilities that need to be checked L200 In addition: If the steering creaks when parking, then a universal joint on the steering column should be replaced soon. Because you can take a good look at the steering wheel itself, you should do so, because its surface obviously does not tolerate hand moisture and UV radiation, which causes the steering wheel rim to crumble.
It is not uncommon to see the airbag lamp in continuous operation, which is usually not due to the airbag itself, but to the wiring harness – difficult to localize.

You should definitely check all-wheel drive and off-road reduction. Although these components are as robust as the one in the L200 IV used direct-injection turbodiesels, but the electrical actuation for shifting tends to seize up with little use.

L200-Owners should therefore move the four-wheel drive lever slowly and gradually through all positions at least once a month, even if the use of four-wheel drive or off-road reduction is not necessary at all. Naturally, this problem would not exist in Ouagadougou either.
