NEW YORK (NewsABC.net / AFP) – The MLB Commissioner does not intend to halt the season, despite new corona infections having surfaced with baseball teams and another game postponed. “We are going to play,” Commissioner Rob Manfred told ESPN. “I am not a quitter and there is no reason to stop now. We should have been flexible, but it is manageable.”
The St. Louis Cardinals were scheduled to face the Brewers in Milwaukee on Friday, but that game was canceled after two Cardinals baseball players tested positive for the lung virus. A second test round shows that another player and several employees may also be infected. As a result, the game could not be caught up on Saturday and it is also uncertain whether the meeting between the Brewers and the Cardinals can be postponed to Sunday. The players and escorts of the St. Louis Cardinals are currently in isolation in their hotel rooms.
The Major League started a week ago, but contests at Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies led to a series of cancellations in the early days of the season.
