Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) wants to continue to negotiate with the ÖVP about the admission of refugees from the burned down Moria camp in Greece. “If even Mr Söder can do that and now also the Dutch Prime Minister, Mr Rutte, then Austria can do it too,” he said on Ö1 radio on Saturday.
Kogler’s interview was recorded before Chancellor Sebastian Kurz’s (ÖVP) Facebook statement, in which the Chancellor clearly underlined his refusal to accept refugees.
Kogler pointed out that there are also voices in the ÖVP itself in favor of accepting refugees from Moria: “We are not only organizing in the green area. Rather, it is quite obvious that more and more people, or more and more mayors – for example from ÖVP -, church organizations, many aid organizations, are also working in this direction, “he said in the conversation recorded for the Ö1-” Mittagsjournal “.
“We are working in talks with the coalition partner to find a solution that we can do in the European spirit and in European concert with the countries that have agreed that we are there.”
In response to an APA request in Kogler’s office on Saturday morning, they did not want to go into the Kurz Facebook statement and referred to Kogler’s words in the Ö1 interview.
