Netflix: Inexpensive subscription planned in cooperation with Microsoft

The streaming service Netflix is cooperating with Microsoft for the introduction of its advertising-financed low-cost subscription.

Microsoft and Netflix announced a collaboration this week. Netflix has teamed up with the Redmond-based group for the planned introduction of its cheaper, advertising-financed streaming subscription. Microsoft will be a “global partner for advertising technology and sales”, according to the official announcement.

Microsoft as the exclusive partner for advertising

According to the streaming service, the ads placed via the advertising-supported Netflix subscription will only be available via the Microsoft platform. Netflix also underscores Microsoft’s approach to protecting privacy and protecting customer data. Microsoft has a proven ability to meet all of Netflix’s advertising requirements, the announcement goes on to say.

Start date for new subscription still unclear

The two companies now want to jointly set up a new advertising-supported offering.

“We are still at the very beginning and still have a lot to do. But our long-term goal is clear. More choice for consumers and a premium, hyper-linear TV brand experience for advertisers,”

like Netflix. It is currently still unclear when exactly the new advertising-financed Netflix subscription will start and how high the monthly fee will be.
