Netflix has announced which TV sets will receive the “Netflix Recommended TV” seal in 2020. However, the quality criteria for this are different for the streaming provider than some might expect.
For example, Netflix does not recommend the TVs with the best picture quality or the most modern features such as HDMI 2.1, but only depends on how the official app for Netflix runs on the devices. So it matters how quickly the app can start, how easy it is to find and whether it can also be kept ready in the background to seamlessly z. B. to switch from the linear TV program to the app for the streaming provider.
In 2020, Netflix is now recommending several models from Panasonic, Samsung and Sony. However, a new criterion was added this year: the television sets had to be ready for interactive content. Of course, they also have to support the latest version of the Netflix app. We generally doubt whether this should play a role for our readers when making a purchase. We still recommend external solutions such as the Amazon Fire TV or an Nvidia Shield TV (here our test), because with these devices you get smoother surfaces and more update security.
But it is exciting that Netflix is now making sure that the Netflix Recommended TVs can also play interactive content or control it comfortably. The streaming provider apparently wants to add more programs in this area. The most recent publication was “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend ”as an interactive special. Other series such as “Carmen Sandiego” or “Black Mirror” also received such interactive episodes.
These TVs are recommended by Netflix

- Z8H (ZH8)
- A8H (A8)
