Nirvana conquered the world at the end of the 1980s. The American grunge band had also performed several times in the UK. And of Nirvana’s very first UK concerts, never-before-seen footage has now surfaced.
What a lockdown is not good for. Photographer Richard Davis recovered negatives from photos he thought he’d lost years ago while cleaning up. These are never-before-seen images of Nirvana at the end of the 1980s.
Between old school photos
“For years I was convinced I had lost the negatives,” photographer Richard Davis told Manchester Evening News. “But about two months ago I was tidying up some of the kids’ comforts and found them among old school photos.”
Second concert in the UK
Davis took the photos at Nirvana’s concert at Manchester Polytechnic Students Union on October 24, 1989. It was the American grunge band’s second ever appearance in the UK. He shared the images in the newspaper and on social media.

Nirvana may have stopped making music when frontman Kurt Cobain died in 1994, the band remains hugely popular. For example, at the end of last year, someone put 334,000 dollars (a good 300,000 euros) on the table for a sweater from Kurt Cobain.
That was of course not just any “sweater”. Nope, it is about “the jersey” that Kurt Cobain wore during the legendary Unpluggedperformance by Nirvana. In that “Unpluggedsweater “was also stained with several holes that Cobain made with his cigarettes.
